Save Pacifica Radio
Demonstration~
Saturday, Nov. 3rd, 2001
Noon to 3:00 PM at KPFK--
3729 Cahuenga Blvd. West
North Hollywood

Join us for a demonstration to end
censorship at KPFK and the Pacifica
Network, and to reclaim local control of
community listener-sponsored radio.
Boycott to stop the sale of WBAI & KPFA, to restore Democracy Now! and to remove the corporate- oriented National Board Members!

Silence is the voice of complicity....

Why has Station Manager Mark Schubb remained silent
about the Pacifica crisis in the face of a corporate takeover?

Why has Mark Schubb distanced himself from the Local Advisory Board (LAB)(our community input mechanism at KPFK) and repudiated the LAB lawsuit against the Pacifica National Board?

Time to ask some tough questions -- Time to take back KPFK 90.7 FM!

KPFK Local Advisory Board Meeting

Thursday, August 8, 2002
at 7:00 p.m.

This meeting will be held at:
The Peace Center
8124 West Third Street
Los Angeles, California
(1/2 block west of Crescent Heights)

This is a meeting of the KPFK Local Advisory Board and interested KPFK listeners and the public are invited to attend.

"Civil disobedience is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is that numbers of people all over the world have obeyed the dictates of the leaders of their government and have gone to war, and millions have been killed because of this obedience... Our problem is that people are obedient all over the world in the face of poverty and starvation and stupidity, and war, and cruelty. Our problem is that people are obedient while the jails are full of petty thieves, and all the while the grand thieves are running and robbing the country. That's our problem."
Howard Zinn, Failure to Quit, p. 45

(This meeting was attended by 1,200 KPFK listeners and has not been
rebroadcast on KPFK complete and unedited, even though station manager
Mark Schubb demanded to, and did speak, at this forum.)

THE PACIFICA CRISIS:

DISSIDENT VOICES FROM INSIDE AND OUT

Control of the mass media is being consolidated in fewer and fewer corporate hands, and voices that challenge powerful interests and fight for social and economic justice are being squeezed out. Independent and public media are not immune from this phenomenon. Recent dramatic events in the takeover and corporatization of Pacifica radio- the largest and most important of the independent broadcasters in the country- have given us an urgent wake-up call, highlighting the threat to free speech, open debate, and being able to hear from the voices of the disenfranchised in every quarter. These issues and what you can do in the fight to save democratic media will be the topic of an evening of discussion and inspiration featuring:

Moderator: Jackie Goldberg,
Veteran Free Speech Activist, L.A. City Councilperson.

Ramona Ripston, (cancelled).
Executive Director of the Southern California ACLU.

NOTE: Ramona Ripston has withdrawn as moderator when she
realized that the issues involved were far more contoversial than
she was aware of; and, she was not going to get herself,
or the ACLU, involved until she fully understood them.
This is according to a spokesperson at the ACLU.

Speakers:

Amy Goodman,
Award-winning journalist and Host Pacifica Radio's "Democracy Now!"

Juan Gonzalez,
Recently resigned Co-Host Pacifica Radio's Democracy Now! and New York Daily News columnist.

Dominique DiPrima, (cancelled).
Host, "Street Science," The Beat 100.3 FM.

Bernard White,
Recently fired Host New York's WBAI "Wake-up Call,"
(20 year employee of Pacifica).

Pilar Marrerro,
Political editor, La Opinion.
